POSITION
TITLE: Executive Director REPORTS TO: His Branches Inc. Board of Directors GENERAL OBJECTIVES: The Executive Director will have a broad range of responsibilities including representing His Branches (HB) to the local, national and international communities and implementing the mission and vision of HB as expressed by its Board of Directors. Additionally, the Executive Director will be responsible for providing oversight for all the ministry’s programs and managing the daily operations of the HB development office. This shall include soliciting and administering government and private grants, developing corporate, foundation, church, and individual support, and creating a plan for broadening the funding sources of the organization. The core
functions of this position include grant writing, fundraising, community
outreach including advocacy and empowerment, community assessment, facilities
management, and financial management. In addition this individual will be
responsible for helping structure collaborative efforts among the ministries
of Grace Family Medicine (GFM), Genesee Valley Sickle Cell Disease Association
(GVSCDA), The Center for Christian Social Ministry (CCSM),
The Institute for
Social Entrepreneurship (ISE), and others. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Board Relations: Works closely with
and reports to a Board of Directors comprised of individuals with commitment
to the HB ministry. Attends Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and
Committee meetings; submits monthly activity reports; and provides input to
as well as implementing board policy. 2) Community outreach, assessment, networking, and publicity: Represents HB and fosters relations with local, regional, national, and international groups. Arranges speaking engagements with community-based organizations as well as tours of the HB facility. Oversees the organization’s website. Writes and directs the production of news releases, newsletters, invitations, announcements, directory listings, programs, etc. Works with and coordinates the activities of volunteers. 3) Program support and development: Mobilizes support for existing HB programs and those of HB collaborative partners and works with Board and collaborative partners to develop and fund new programs that address identified community needs. Works with collaborative partners in developing a central intake and affecting a holistic client plan of service. 4) Facility renovation, expansion, and maintenance: Oversees and implements facility improvements and maintenance with support of Board Facilities Committee, working with appropriate contractors, subcontractors, and volunteers. 5) Financial Management: Oversees the organization’s annual operational budget, and works closely with Board Members, especially the Treasurer and Finance Committee, to build a new budget each year. Supervises deposits of funds, payment of bills and payroll, reconciliation of bank statements, and maintenance of accurate records of income and disbursements of entire ministry, including GFM. Assists the Treasurer in generating quarterly and year-end reports. The Executive Director also works with collaborative partners to provide efficient use of human and financial resources that results from an economy of scale with the participating partners. 6) Fundraising: Oversees all activities related to maintaining and expanding HB programs and all aspects of grant writing, including identification of grant opportunities, submission of proposals, and presentation of final reports. Works with committee members to plan and carry out special events. The Executive Director is also responsible for exploring and developing new sources of revenue, such as endowment funding. 7) Other: Engages in other authorized activities appropriate to the circumstances. QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Vital personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. 2) Full agreement with the HB and GFM Statements of Faith and Principles. 3) Goal and task oriented. Dependable, stable, able to work independently as well as with diverse communities, and capable of following through on commitments. 4) Bachelor’s degree with further graduate training in business, management, or social services with credentials in good standing. 5) The ideal candidate will possess proven leadership qualities, a minimum of two to five years’ experience in a related field, good personal rapport and judgment, outgoing and diplomatic personality, sense of humor, excellent oral and written communication skills with experience in public speaking, exposure to or experience with collaborations with Christian non-profit service providers, and recent involvement in fund raising, grant writing and grants management. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: 1) Maintain faithful attendance in a local church with close pastoral support and covering. 2) Maintain and expand professional credentials and knowledge. 3) Attend conferences pertinent to the ministry’s development. CURRENT MINISTRY INVOLVEMENTS AND NEEDS LOCAL: Work with Board to secure funding to support Executive Director position. Strengthen core collaborative arrangements with GFM, GVSCDA, CCSM, and ISE. Improve GFM financial stability and future outlook. Oversee expansion of property, parking lot, green space, and facility upgrade. Explore development of onsite Counseling Center with Roberts Wesleyan College. Expand interface with local churches and other service agencies. Support activities of Medical Center Christian Fellowship. Explore Prepared Parenthood concept and other ministries that emerge from the HB strategic plan. NATIONAL: Attend Christian Community Health Fellowship “Nuts & Bolts” Workshop in September 2003. INTERNATIONAL: Develop prayer
base and financial support as needed for international outreach ministries,
including: International Christian Embassy, Jerusalem. Beverley Timgren, Israel and Lebanon. Iquitos Amazon Mission, Peru.
