Leo Holmsten Human Life Award Banquet

The annual LHHL Committee Award Banquet is being held this year at the Clarion Riverside Hotel, 120 East Main Street in downtown Rochester, on September 16th. The reception starts at 5:45 pm, followed by dinner at 6:30 pm. His Branches is one of the many pro-life organizations co-sponsoring this event in the community, and our President, Dr. Morehouse, was last year's recipient. This year's honorees will be Richard and Carol Crossed. If you are interested in attending, please mark your calendars and contact us for tickets.

Dr. John Patrick weekend

With generous support from the Leo Holmsten Human Life Committee, His Branches has invited John Patrick, MD, a noted Canadian pediatrician, researcher, ethicist, and professor to come to the Rochester community September 26-28 for a series of meetings at the University of Rochester in conjunction with the Medical Center Christian Fellowship. While in the area arrangements have been made for him to speak to medical students and community physicians on Friday and Saturday as well as the broader community at a special event on Friday evening and during the regular Sunday morning service at Edgewood Free Methodist Church.

Christian Physician Directory and Breakfasts

Every year His Branches co-hosts with the Medical Center Christian Fellowship a series of three breakfasts for Christian physicians in the area to meet students and fellowship with one another. This year's first breakfast will be held on Saturday, September 27th, from 9 to 11 am at Helen Wood Hall across Crittenden Blvd. from the U. of R. Medical Center. Over the years a Directory of physicians has been developed also. If you are in the health professions and would be interested in attending one of our breakfast meetings or in having your name listed in our Directory, please contact us.

National Sickle Cell Month

Did you know that September is National Sickle Cell Month? In Rochester, the Finger Lakes Chapter of the National Sickle Cell Association will be sponsoring a "Celebration of Life Dinner" on Saturday, September 20th. The evening will start at 6:00 pm at the Wishing Well Party House on 1190 Chili Avenue in Rochester and will feature Mrs. Sandra Nettles-Lechebo as guest speaker. Tickets are $20 a person. For further information or tickets, please contact Penny Dicks at 235-3860.

The following Saturday, September 27th, starting at 1:00 pm we will be participating in a Community Awareness Day by doing an awareness walk-a-thon in the Arnett Boulevard community. Come on by the Genesee Valley Sickle Cell Disease Association (GVSCDA) offices in our building at 342 Arnett Boulevard, Suite 1, or call 235-3860 to join in.

New parking, green space, and a mural!

After nearly two years of planning and discussion with members of the community, His Branches signed "conditional closing" papers with the City of Rochester this summer to purchase the two vacant lots immediately to the west of our offices. Under the guidance of Dave Beinetti and Carmine Torchia, final site plans have been developed and submitted to the City for review. With the City's approval, we expect to be breaking ground for our new parking lot and landscaped green space this fall. As part of the project, a mural concept has been proposed for our west wall with a target date of next summer. Between now and then we will be pursuing assistance from the Council on the Arts as well as seeking a lot of community input and participation.

Beverley Timgren Visiting

Beverley, the missionary that His Branches has been helping support in South Lebanon and northern Israel for the past 20 years, will be back in Rochester to visit us from October 14th to the 16th. She will be meeting with church elders the evening after she arrives and attending our regular monthly Board Meeting the following morning. A noontime luncheon will be held for her on October 15th in our main conference room. If you would be interested in meeting Beverley while she is here and finding out more about her ministry, please contact us.

RWC Internship

With the support of the Roberts Wesleyan College Business Department, a student intern, Sara Diaz, has been assigned to work with His Branches in developing a community assessment and marketing plan during the coming year. Among other responsibilities, Sara will be out in the community interviewing program leaders, reviewing demographic data about our ministry and others in the area, helping develop public relations material appropriate to our ministries, providing assistance in grant location and writing, and helping gather community support for our mural project.

Counseling Center

His Branches is actively seeking input from a number of committed individuals at Roberts Wesleyan College, New Life Fellowship, the Center for Christian Social Ministries, the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship and others in the broader community as we pursue our plans to develop an onsite assessment, counseling, and referral center. Much interest has been shown, and steady progress is being made as we seek specifics about the plan that the Lord has in mind.

Grace Family Medicine Associates News

Grace Family Medicine Associates held its annual staff picnic in August at the Morehouse family property in Steuben County and we all had a great time. The weather cooperated wonderfully; the swimming was very refreshing; and the s'mores were as sticky-sweet as ever!

Here's the twilight gang loading up marshmallows for making s'mores while Goliath looks for another willing victim to play ball with him...

Becky Hutton, our office nurse, traveled to Russia for three weeks this past summer to work with a Christian youth camp. She returned with stories of God's amazing grace and renewed enthusiasm to reach out to others with His love.

Executive Director Search

Our search for a full-time Executive Director to implement the vision of His Branches and the Board in the community has been moving along in an encouraging way.  We've been in contact with an interested candidate and covet your prayers as we seek the Lord's will together. If you know anyone else who would be interested in discussing this exciting new position with us further, please steer them in our direction.

Intercessory Prayer Meetings

Monthly intercessory prayer meetings of the Tree of Life Community will be held on Wednesday mornings from 8:00 to 9:00 am in our main conference room at 275 Warwick Avenue on September 17th, October 22nd, and November 19th this fall. Please come and invite prayer partners who have a burden for city ministry.
