Welcome!

Beginning in 2001, the Division of Business Administration and Management and the Division of Social Work and Social Science at Roberts Wesleyan College (RWC) began to collaborate in promoting a multi-disciplinary service effort in the Rochester area. The combined efforts of the two divisions resulted in the development of the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship. The winning combination of business principles and social work strategies were the guiding force for this combined vision for the Institute. The Institute harnesses the spirit of an entrepreneur (one who undertakes and is creative/innovative in thinking and action) with a social focus (for the common good).

       Mission and Goals

The mission of the Institute for Social Entrepreneurship is to promote and assist innovative solutions to pressing social needs using sound business principles in the faith community, government, and social services, both in Rochester and internationally.

The Institute’s goals include the following:

·  Provide professional consulting and research services to agencies, businesses and governments interested in finding innovative solutions to social problems.

·  Encourage and provide Roberts’ students and faculty with opportunities to assist and provide technical support to social entrepreneurial projects in the faith community, social service agencies and governments.

·  Develop a repository of social entrepreneurship knowledge which Roberts’ students, faculty and the Rochester community can access.

·  Assist the Golisano Foundation in the design and implementation of entrepreneurial programs and initiatives.
